Cultivating Contemplative Congregations

Every pastor longs to see lives transformed, disciples maturing, and congregations growing deeper in their walk with Christ. This workshop invites pastors and church leaders to rediscover biblically grounded contemplative practices — including fresh expressions of silence and attentive listening, praying the Examen, and Scripture meditation through a variety of methods — to foster a growth mindset in one's faith, as powerful means of grace that cultivate lasting spiritual formation and renewed passion for ministry. Rooted in the Wesleyan tradition, participants will learn practical, accessible ways to integrate these practices into preaching, discipleship, small groups, and congregational life. You are invited to explore the practices that can help us move beyond simply knowing about God to abiding more deeply in Christ, fostering a congregation that is increasingly shaped by the transforming work of the Holy Spirit. 

Led by Tamara Adams. Rev. Dr. Tamara R. Adams is the Lead Pastor of South Carroll Church of the Nazarene, Teacher at the Lamb of God School, and a passionate advocate for spiritual formation, discipleship, and congregational renewal. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Developmental Psychology (UMBC), a degree in Ministry (MVNU), a master’s degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling (Wesley Seminary at IWU), and a doctorate in Spiritual Formation and Discipleship (NTS). With over 20 years of experience as an educator, pastor, and retreat speaker, Tamara brings a unique blend of theological insight, pastoral wisdom, and practical experience in helping individuals and churches grow deeper in their relationship with Christ. Her passion is equipping believers and congregations to embrace practices that cultivate spiritual transformation, strengthen faith communities, and foster a life of abiding in God’s grace. Outside of ministry, Tamara enjoys reading, the beach, hiking, and spending time with her family. She has been married to Michael for 31 years and is the proud mother of four sons.”
