About The EVENT

The environmental issues confronting our world today require immediate attention and effective action. If we understand the Biblical mandate for humanity to care for all creation, we know that the Church is called to be leaders in working for the restoration and healing of our world. This webinar series will help us understand and live into our calling, discovering new ways to participate in this holy work.

This webinar is led by Rev. Caleb Cray Haynes, who is the Director of Nazarenes for Creation Care (https://www.nazarenesforcreationcare.com/) and an ordained Elder in the Church of the Nazarene. He serves as the Community & Creation Pastor at Kaleo Nashville Church of the Nazarene and is a partner with the Evangelical Environmental Network. Caleb is also the author of Garbage Theology: The Unseen World of Waste and What It Means for the Salvation of Every Person, Every Place, and Every Thing. This book addresses the relationship between Christianity and earth-care.

The course will meet for 6 weeks on Tuesdays from October 10th-November 21st at 6pm-7pm CDT (Class will not meet October 31st) and will cover the following topics:

  1. Christians and the Environment. Why should we care? Talking creation care with your congregation. - October 10 @ 6pm
  2. Holiness Theology and Creation. What does sanctification have to do with this? Connecting theological dots, connecting our hearts and our hands. - October 17 @ 6pm
  3. Climate Change and the Church. What is climate change and can we really know? Understanding your faith’s relationship with your footprint. - October 24 @ 6pm
  4. Inequality and Creation Care. How does this affect my neighbor? Unpacking environmental racism and the role of the church. - November 7 @ 6pm
  5. The Eating Church. How does what we consume change the world? Looking at the relationship between agriculture, food, and the Kingdom of God. - November 14 @ 6pm
  6. On Earth as it is in Heaven. What can we really do? What should we do? A closing dialogue on the role of the local church and a groaning creation. - November 21 @ 6pm
